The Provenance Readiness Check Is Now Live Online

Close-up of SVG code on a screen.

The Provenance Readiness Check is now live online. Answer twenty questions in your browser and get your results — section scores, pattern and reading — instantly, with nothing to fill in by hand.

We published the check as a downloadable PDF earlier this month. The PDF stays available for anyone who prefers to work through it on paper, but most people asked for the same thing: fewer steps between answering a question and seeing what it means.

What is different online

The structure is identical to the PDF — the same twenty questions across the same five sections, the same scoring logic, the same reading bands. What the online version adds is immediacy: your section scores update live as you answer, and once you finish, your results, the pattern they suggest, and what to do next are generated on the spot rather than calculated by hand against a printed table.

You can still get a document out of it. The results screen has a “Print or save as PDF” button that produces a clean, printable copy of your results using your browser’s own print function, alongside an option to copy your results as plain text.

How to access it

The check is free. You will be asked for your email before you start — the same lightweight step we use for our downloadable papers, not a full account or password. Once you have entered it, the check stays unlocked in your browser for future visits.

What is next

We are looking at what it would take to make the check smarter over time — for example, comparing a result against anonymised patterns from other assessments. Nothing about that is committed yet, and we would rather ship it properly than announce it early. For now, the check does exactly what it says: twenty honest questions, scored instantly, with no verdict attached.

Key Takeaways
  • The Provenance Readiness Check is now available as an interactive online tool, in addition to the original downloadable PDF.
  • Same twenty questions, same five sections, same scoring — the online version adds instant results and a live progress view.
  • Results can still be turned into a document via the built-in “Print or save as PDF” option, or copied as plain text.
  • Access is gated by a simple email step, not a full account — once unlocked, it stays unlocked in your browser.
  • We are exploring, not promising, ways to make it smarter over time; nothing beyond the current tool is committed.

Questions & Answers

Do I need to create an account?

No. You enter your email once to unlock the check in your browser — there is no password and no account to manage.

Is the PDF version going away?

No. The PDF remains available for anyone who prefers to work through the check on paper, or wants a version to circulate internally before anyone opens a browser.

Can I get a document out of the online version?

Yes. The results screen includes a “Print or save as PDF” option that produces a printable copy of your results, plus a “Copy results as text” option.

Is my data stored anywhere?

Your answers and the artefact you name stay in your browser for the session — we do not collect your individual answers. We do collect the email used to unlock the check, in the same way we do for our downloadable papers.
